What is AI?
AI (Artificial Intelligence) refers to the ability of computer systems to act according to the human mind and perform cognitive tasks. This includes possibilities for perception as well as the ability to learn from data inputs and experience and thus to find solutions to problems independently. AI is a broad field, including several software solutions and tools for specific use cases that mimic human intelligence.
Field of application of AI
The following AI functions are particularly common in process automation and optimization:
NLP (Natural Language Processing) is used to extract information from natural or human language and is therefore used in every area of process automation where free texts have to be analyzed and data extracted. For example, NLP can be used to recognize invoice numbers, amounts, and data from invoice texts, regardless of their structure.
Computer Vision is a function that primarily deals with the analysis of the user interface. Computer vision serves to structure and identify individual elements of the presented surface. Thus, for example, items on the user interface can be identified, which are not marked accordingly and, therefore, not tangible for the according to the software.
OCR (Optical Character Recognition) is a subtype of Computer Vision. With OCR, characters can be extracted from images and any surfaces whose texts are not digitally tangible and made available digitally. It does not matter in which font or language the characters are displayed. The OCR technique is already widely used and finds its application in the digitization of texts in invoices, receipts, and other documents that are submitted as scans or photos.
